Katharina Wenty, born 1995, grew up in Vienna where she started writing her own short stories and poems at the age of eight. Another eight years later she began publishing some of her literary works in numerous anthologies and magazines. The same year she discovered her passion for filmmaking which lead to her short films being part of various film festivals (e.g. International Short Film Festival Pune India, Art Visuals & Poetry, Dot Dot Dot, Videoundfilmtage, Rec’n’Play, Wörgler Kurzfilmfestival), being broadcasted on TV (ORF, W24, OktoTV) and even winning several awards, amongst others Media Literacy Award, Zeitimpuls Kurzfilm Award 2013+2016, Videoundfilmtage Preis 2012+2015, Science Clip of the Year etc.

After school she studied theatre-, film- and media studies at the university of Vienna, followed by a course of lectures in Multimedia at the Höhere Graphische Bundes-, Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt.


In 2016 Katharina began performing at Poetry Slams and two years later she became the Wien/Niederösterreich/Burgenland state champion in Poetry Slam and achieved the 5th place in the European Poetry Slam Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

She has not only performed at political events such as the Future-Congress of the Green Parties Europe, the Viennese Week of Dignity, Poetry Slam for women’s rights petition for a referendum etc. but was also invited to participate in international events like Festival Internacional de Poesía Ignacio Rodríguez Galván 2019 (Mexico), Invasione Poetica in Gavoi (Sardinia), Cabudanne de sos poetas XVI in Seneghe (Sardinia), 4Gamechangers (Austria), Deichbrand Festival 2019 in Cuxhaven (Germany), Clash of Languages in Bratislava (Slovakia), 4th International Poetry Slam Cyprus (Cyprus) and many more.

Furthermore, she has held poetry slam workshops for the foreign ministry of Austria at the university of Stip in North Macedonia, collaborated many times with the Goethe-Institut, performed at various events in front of a few thousand people and her poetry performances were broadcasted on different TV channels.

Due to her many performances in countries like Mexico, Morocco, North Macedonia, Italy, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, Switzerland, Luxembourg etc. Katharina is one of the most touring Austrian poets nowadays.


Since 2019 she focuses on the work in the U20 slam scene in Austria and is an active part of “Slam Alphas” - a society from Austria, Germany and Switzerland which supports Finta* persons (female, inter, non-binary, trans, agender) to gain more space within the german-speaking slam scene. In 2020 she founded her own association “Poetry slam’md – Verein für Bühnenkunst, Literatur und Jugendkultur'' which organizes monthly poetry slams with international feature poets.


Besides her studies at university and her poetry slam activities, she currently works as a production assistant in the newsroom of the public-service broadcasting ORF as well as a freelance photographer and filmmaker.
